Despite being a documentary,When Dinosaurs Roamed America has many scientific errors.
General[]
- All theropods have pronated wrists. In real life, they did not pronate their wrists.
- Dinosaurs could not make mammalian roaring sounds. Instead, they made booming sounds like crocodilians and cassowaries.
Late Triassic Segment[]
- Coelophysis might have had feathers, but this is debated.
- Icarosaurus is claimed to be the first gliding reptile, this wasn't true. The first gliding reptile really was Coelurosauravus.
- Traversodon is shown in North America, when it actually lived in South America. Though it could visit North America because all continents were fused together.
Early Jurassic Segment[]
- Anchisaurus is shown to be bigger than Syntarus while in real life it was the opposite.
- Dilophosaurus might have had feathers, but this is debated.
- Coelophysis and Dilophosaurus were not related to Ceratosaurus.
Late Jurassic Segment[]
- The narrator says Ceratosaurus was the last ceratosaur but it was actually a very primitive ceratosaur.
- Ceratosaurus and Allosaurus probably hunted different kinds of prey and wouldn't compete. Though this is not confirmed so Ceratosaurus and Allosaurus might have competed with each other.
- Allosaurus is described as 'the most advanced flesh eater of its day', implying it was the apex predator of its time. But there were other carnivores that were larger than it like Torvosaurus and Saurophaganax (if it isn't a species of Allosaurus).
- Dryosaurus could not pivot its hands.
- Dryosaurus might have feathers or quills but this is still debated.
Mid Cretaceous Segment[]
- The dromaeosaurs are shown with downy feathers while in real life they had wings.
- Zunicratops might have had quills but this is still debated.
- Raptors were not pack hunters.
Late Cretaceous Segment[]
- Tyrannosaurus Rex was not a pack hunter.
- T.Rex probably had lips that concealed its teeth.
- The female T.Rex is bigger than her mate but this is unsupported by any evidence.
- Triceratops might have had quills but this theory came out after the documentary's release and is only a hypothesis.
- The Ornithomimus had wings in real life.
