Apatosaurus is a genus of sauropod dinosaur which lived during the late Jurassic period in the United States of AmericaApatosaurus was a sauropod dinosaur. It was one of the largest land animals that ever existed, with an average length of at least 27 meters (90 ft) and a mass of 20-30 tons. Apatosaurus were dinosaurs that traveled in herds as the other sauropods did. They were giant fortresses of flesh, but were too large for most predators to attack, even by fully grown AllosaurusThe name Apatosaurus means 'deceptive lizard', so-given by Othniel Marsh in 1877 because the chevron bones were similar to those of a prehistoric marine lizard, Mosasaurus.

Apatosaurus walking

This creature first comes into the area after the rainy season. Then an Allosaurus tries to attack a youngster but the Apatosaurus mom scares it off with her whiplike tail. The predator walks away. Then, while leaving the area to avoid the dry season, an Apatosaurus falls down a steep drop and breaks its leg, bellowing in pain. Then, three Allosaurus pick up its agonized bellowing and eat it alive, killing it in time.

Trivia[]

The Narrator named one of them Dino from "The Flintstones." John Goodman starred in The Flintstones film and played Fred Flintstone.

Like Stegosaurus, Apatosaurus is often called the elephant of the Jurassic, only 12 times heavier. And, along with Diplodocus, it is also known as the okapi of the Jurassic, too.

Errors[]

For 112 years, it was believed that Brontosaurus was the same as Apatosaurus but since 2015, Brontosaurus is, now, considered its own genus again.
